Berlin A diorama modelled around Friedrichstrasse railway station in Mid Epoch 3 (1962) with trains on viaduct (static) and the border crossing nearby at street level. The weather is cold & frosty.
Part of the first Berlin Wall with a tram terminus on the East Berlin side, directly outside the southern station entrance. The line is shown going across into West Berlin with the wall preventing the passage of trams.(The first Berlin wall commenced construction in June 1961 and then was continuously “improved”)
The Friedrichstrasse station frontage, originally destined for the L&DMRC layout,is to to be a feature of this diorama.
A Berlin tram & trailer from Halling, purchased at the Cologne Modelbahn 2016, will be an operational feature. Hope to get further models later .
In a slight change this will probably be another Ikea toy box layout, using two boxes, without a conventional fiddle yard.
This operational diorama was one of the choices for the Liphook U3A “Building a Model Railway Group 2017” to follow during construction, but is not amongst the first two layouts constructed. It may be constructed during the second half of the sessions (7 to 12)
