Good day exhibiting at Globalrail 2016

Today we (Nick, Graham & myself) had a good day exhibiting Kanjiyama at Globalrail 2016 at Didcot

This was the first time the club had exhibited at a German Railway Society exhibition. It was well organised; there was a good interesting range of layouts, including Czech narrow gauge -TT on Z scale track & O gauge German & British; with excellent trade serving continental enthusiasts & a number of specialised continental socities. The venue was good. The layout behaved itself.

I am sure the organisers would have liked a few more visitors, but as a new show at a new venue it was promising

We hope to get invited again!

David & Ben visited the exhibition & did some shopping..

Nick & myself also helped to keep the traders happy  with some buying & Graham exercised commendable control in buying a few copies of S/H back issues of Continental Modeller magazine!

I met a fellow member of the Scandinavian Railways Society & the editor/owner of Scale Rail International, Chris Ford who recognised my name from his subscriber list!!

Membership drive bears fruit

Building on some overlap with the Liphook U3A Transport Interests group – 3 members of that group, Bill, Dennis & Barry have visited the club over the last month. Of these Bill hasn’t returned to either; Dennis has visited the club twice & is going to join and it looks like Barry will come back after his holidays.

I addition Edward, the son of a long time member, has joined as a Junior member, the first for many years.

All in all a fairly successful outcome- a 17% increase from 14 to 16.5 members!

We celebrate a long serving member’s “significant” birthday

Last Friday (24th) we quietly celebrated Eric’s 80th birthday presenting him with a card signed by members and consuming a sponge cake made by a members wife.

Eric has been a club member for over 30 years & was treasurer for over 20 years.

He is a very skillful builder of model buildings in wood & card. With his son Andrew he has built baseboards for most of the club layouts & many for members. He is a carpenter by trade & still works nearly a full week.

Good day ~playing trains at Model Trains in Petersfield event

IMG_5283We had an early start this morning (7am) to load Martin H & my car from the club store at MVMH. David P & Ben R assisted and then went on to load Buroklammer into  Ben & Davids cars

Matt was there at the hall with doors already unlocked at 7.30ish Most layouts were up and operational by 9.

There was a flow of visitors at 10am when we opened, which continued until midday, but with the lovely weather in the afternoon numbers never recovered.

Everybody, members and visitors alike seemed to enjoy themselves, which is the way to judge such an event. All layouts performed well. Attendance was down on last year, but it looks like financially we covered our costs (S/H sales were fairly good)- all subject to Graham checking things out!

Philipa did an excellent job on the refreshments and David our “new” Chairman presented her with some flowers as a small token of our appreciation .

We  closed at 4pm and were packed & loaded by just gone 5pm. We were able to unload at MVMH prompt at 6pm with the last Ballet Class leaving.

All in all a good day.

Good Luck to Nick with him wearing the organiser hat for Model Trains in the Valley on 25th October in MVMH
