The layout is a fictional station on the Didcot, Newbury & Southampton line which closed in the early 60’s
The layout is a fiddle yard to fiddle yard set up with a double track station area, with goods yard & local engine shed measuring 12.2 (40′) x 0.9 (3′) & constructed generally in 1.2m sections.
Potentially the layout can provide plenty of movement as the prototype line handled considerable quantities of military freight traffic & troop specials, particularly during the Second World War, post D-Day. In peace time traffic was a little sparce, with a branch line train service with the occassional inter-regional freight or passenger excursion train. As the line was single track for most of its length, with stations with long passing loops (considerably lengthened during WWII), this is reproduced on this layout. GWR & SR stock predominates amongst members stock, as it was on the prototype post war.
The layout was exhibited at the Midhurst Modellers Show in 2005 & at our Open Day later in the same year.
Currently the layout is in store awaiting the club’s return to permanent premises. We hope we can exhibit this layout in 2008.
